Roughly every other year, my friend JT and I try to get together for a fishing trip.
The first iteration of this informal tradition involved meeting him at his parents’ cabin in northern Minnesota. The next time, we split the trip between the cabin and my house in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Bass fishing during the first leg of the trip and capitalizing on the fall salmon run during the back half.
This time, we decided to meet somewhere more in the middle. While I don’t recall how the topic came up, we chose the Mississippi River. JT had some experience with the area, having lived in La Crosse for a spell in his early post-college days, I had never fished the big river. I had many successful duck hunting trips there but, for some reason, had never wet a thread in those muddy waters. I was excited to change that.
