Wisconsin’s landlocked public lands

Land is an incredibly valuable asset because it’s the one thing you can’t make more of.

Without the right land, fishing, hunting, and hiking opportunities largely cease to exist.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Badger State is home to over 7 million acres of public land that is available for hunting and/or fishing.

In the early 1990s, Wisconsin ranked No. 20 among all states in public land access, with over 18 percent of its total land open to hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.

Venison Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe

Before you say anything, you’re right. This venison cheesesteak slider isn’t a typical “Philly Cheesesteak.” That’s by design. Because there is no way they are serving up hot deer sandwiches this good in Pennsylvania.

My wife Lyza had the idea of using our leftover reverse-seared venison steaks for sandwiches. Now, we will be cooking venison steak for the sole purpose of making these beautiful, toasty treats.

Duck Camp

A handful of years ago, my friend Brandon decided to organize a group duck hunt on Castle Rock Lake in Central Wisconsin.

I’d be lying if I told you I remember exactly what sparked that initial trip. And, in the name of honesty, many of the details of our trips have started to blend together now that our treks to Adams County have become an annual event.

Gear that will improve your hunt

One of the beauties of hunting is that everyone has their own approach. Often times, there is more than one right way to do things and, if you are paying attention, there is a lot to learn from how others approach their time in the woods or in the field.

The same can be said about gear selection. Everyone has their own taste in equipment, but keeping an open mind can lead you to new tools that will improve your hunt.
